When the drive beats the flight
Philadelphia, Washington, Boston, Atlantic City, the Hamptons, the Hudson Valley. On these routes a car is often not the extravagant option but the sensible one, because the journey is door to door and the two hours of airport on each end simply do not exist.

Washington is four and a half hours either way
The flight is ninety minutes. Add getting to the airport, security, boarding, the wait, the taxi at the other end, and the door-to-door figure lands within half an hour of the drive — with four more points at which it can go wrong.
For one person travelling light, the train or the plane is usually still the better answer, and we will say so. For two or more, with luggage, to an address that is not near a station, the car stops being a luxury somewhere around Philadelphia and stays that way all the way to Washington.

The restroom is what makes a day trip possible
On a coach of fifty people, two unplanned service-area stops are rarely under thirty minutes each. Our 56-seat Mercedes coach has a restroom on board, which turns Washington, Boston and Atlantic City into single-day runs rather than journeys built around where everyone can get off.
WiFi throughout, under-floor luggage bays, and reclining seats. On a corporate run the journey becomes working time, which is usually what justifies the coach over everyone travelling separately.
Where we run, and roughly how long it takes
Door to door, in ordinary traffic. Summer Fridays heading east and Sunday evenings heading back into the city are the two reliable exceptions, and we plan around both.
Further afield — Pittsburgh, Buffalo, the Carolinas, Montreal — is quoted individually and usually planned as an overnight.
Three things that shape a long-distance quote
Driving hours are capped by federal rule, not by us. A chauffeur carrying passengers may drive ten hours after eight consecutive hours off duty, and may not drive at all beyond fifteen hours on duty. There is also a limit of sixty hours in seven days, with no restart provision for passenger carriers.
A Washington round trip in one day runs close to those limits before anything goes wrong. Where an itinerary passes them, a second chauffeur is required — and we work that out while quoting rather than raising it the week before.
One way costs more than half a return. The vehicle still has to come back, with nobody in it. Any operator quoting a one-way at exactly half the round trip has either not thought about it or is recovering the difference somewhere else.
Overnight means the chauffeur stays too. On a multi-day trip the accommodation is part of the cost and it is inside our quote. It is worth checking whether it is inside anyone else's.
Why people take the car

Corporate day trips
A team to Philadelphia or Washington and back in a day. Four hours each way in a vehicle you can work in beats four hours of terminals, and it bills to one account.

Group charters
Conferences, school and university trips, supporters' groups. The mini coach takes twenty-eight; the Mercedes coach takes fifty-six with a restroom on board.

The Hamptons
Seasonal and heavily booked. Friday afternoons east and Sunday evenings west are the worst of it, and leaving an hour earlier genuinely saves two.

Destination weddings
Hudson Valley barns, Connecticut estates, Jersey Shore venues. Guests travel together and nobody drives home afterwards.

Casino runs
Atlantic City, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Hourly or as a day rate, with the car waiting rather than leaving you to arrange the way back at midnight.

Distant airports
Philadelphia, Boston Logan, Dulles, Bradley and Albany. Sometimes the connection is not worth it and the drive to the bigger hub is simply better.
A day rate, agreed before you book
Anything outside the Tri-State area is quoted as a day rate rather than hourly, because the shape of the day matters more than the clock. Tolls, parking, fuel and gratuity are inside the figure, and nothing is added afterwards.
Tell us the destination, the date, the group size and whether you are returning the same day. That is enough for a firm number, usually within the hour. If a second chauffeur or an overnight is needed, it is in that number rather than discovered later.
Long-distance car service
How far will you actually go?
There is no hard limit. Philadelphia, Washington, Boston and Atlantic City are weekly work. Pittsburgh, Buffalo, the Carolinas and Montreal are quoted individually and planned as overnights. For anything crossing into Canada, tell us early — the paperwork is different.
Is it hourly or a flat rate?
Outside the Tri-State area, a day rate. Within it, either, depending on whether the car waits. Both are agreed before you book and include tolls, parking and gratuity.
Why is one way not half the price?
Because the vehicle and chauffeur still have to return, empty. A one-way quote reflects that, and anyone offering exactly half a round trip is recovering the difference somewhere you have not seen yet.
Can one chauffeur drive to Washington and back in a day?
It is close to the legal limit. Federal rules allow ten hours of driving after eight consecutive hours off duty, within a fifteen-hour on-duty window, and a round trip to Washington uses most of that before any delay. Depending on your schedule we may build in a second chauffeur, which we tell you while quoting.
What happens on an overnight trip?
The chauffeur stays where the group stays, or nearby, and the accommodation is inside the quote. Multi-day tours and corporate programmes are regular work.
Is there a restroom on board?
On the 56-seat Mercedes coach, yes, and it is what makes a non-stop run possible. The 28-seat mini coach and the Sprinter vans do not have one, so for a long trip with a mid-size group we will usually recommend the full coach and explain why.
How far ahead should we book?
For summer Hamptons weekends, graduations and the conference season, as early as you can. For an ordinary corporate run, two to three weeks is comfortable. We will always tell you honestly if a date is tight.
Do you provide a certificate of insurance?
Yes, on request. Corporate, school and university clients usually need one for their own records, and our chauffeurs hold the commercial licences required for passenger transport.
